WhatsApp now has more than 3 billion people who use it each month, Meta Mark Zuckerberg CEO recorded during the company’s Q1 conferences on Wednesday.

Founded in 2009 and acquired by Facebook for $ 19 billion in 2014, WhatsApp remains free to use and does not serve any advertising. The application reached 2 billion monthly active user signal in 2020, but with the latest milestone, it is now one of the few applications to cross the 3 billion users’ signal, except Facebook.

This huge users base makes Whatsapp a basic Meta business, especially now as the company has bet the farm in AI’s strategy. The company has previously stated that the application is one of the largest AI distribution platforms.

“We see people dealing with Meta AI from various different entry points. Whatsapp continues to see the strongest use of Meta AI throughout the family of our applications,” said Meta CFO Susan Li during the teleconference. He also noted that most WhatsApp users are involved in Meta AI in one-on-one conversations.

Zuckerberg said that while WhatsApp provides easy access to AI features, Meta had to adopt a different approach to promote AI products in markets such as the US, where the majority of people still prefer to use their phone exchange applications to write each other. There comes the Meta AI app of the company.

‘We hope to become the leader over time [in the U.S. messaging market]But we are in a different position there than we are for most of the rest of the world in WhatsApp. So I believe that the application of Meta AI as an autonomous will be particularly important in the United States to create leadership-as the main AI staff used by humans. But we will continue to promote experiences in all areas in all these different areas, “he said.

The company said the business platform for the conversation application, WhatsApp Business, is growing and representing much of the $ 510 million revenue brought by the family of its applications.
