Christian Selig, the iOS developer who ran the favorite third -party customer Reddit Apollo, is involved in the new repetition of Digg as a consultant.
Earlier this year, Digg’s original founder Kevin Rose and co -founder Reddit Alexis Ohanian acquired what was left by Digg in an attempt to rejuvenate what was formerly known as “the homepage of the Internet”. Rose and Ohanian were already an exciting mating – the two had previously seen each other as opponents, as Digg and Reddit were intense competitors.
With the addition of Selig to the mixture, Rose and Ohanian further signify that the new Digg wants to move things.
Selig played a prominent role in the reaction against Reddit’s increased API pricing in 2023, which made free applications such as Apollo – which offered an improved browsing experience for Reddit users – impossible to perform. To one Reddit post This became a virus, Selig told users that in order to keep Apollo running as it is below the new API pricing, it would have to pay about $ 1.7 million a month. Needless to say, Apollo was closed, very much for the frustration of the Reddit community.
“We are excited to have the Selig to bring the same boat and the first thought of the community to Digg, helping us build something that feels good to use and even better to be a place,” said Digg CEO Justin Mezzell in a statement.
Digg begins an attempt to make social internet feel fun again, as opposed to his current state where Ai shrimp Jesus Other artificial slopes have been handled in our feed. But Digg is not ready to open to the public yet. Last month, Digg opened enrollments for an early access program calling “Pressbreakers”, which is asking for a $ 5 one -off fee to keep the bots out. (Revenue from the program is donated to non -profit organizations selected by the Digg community.)
In the announcement of the role of Selig, Mezzell included a reference ratio in the API Drama in Reddit. “I just won’t comment on this, we record our own course here on Digg,” Mezzell said. “But if I comment, I would probably say”[redact] Side, what is confusing. “But that would only be if I said something publicly.”
