Meta Andrew Bosworth Technology He took to explain, in more technical details, because the multiple demos of Meta’s new Smart Glasses technology failed the company’s conference this week at Meta Connect.
Meta on Wednesday introduced three new pairs of smart glasses, including an upgraded version of the existing Ray-Ban Meta, a new Meta Ray-Ban display accompanied by a bracelet controller and the Oakley Meta Vanguard.
However, at different points during the event, live technology demos failed to operate.
In one, Jack Mancuso’s cooking content creator asked the Ray-Ban Meta glasses how to start with a specific sauce recipe. After repetition of the question, “What to do first?” Without an answer, the AI failed in front of the recipe, forcing him to stop the demo. Then he threw it back to Meta Mark Zuckerberg’s CEO, saying that he believes Wi-Fi can be confused.
In another demo, the glasses failed to get a live TV call WhatsApp between Bosworth and Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg finally had to give up. Bosworth walked on stage, joking about the “brutal” Wi-Fi.
“You exercise these things like a hundred times, and then you never know what will happen,” Zuckerberg said at the moment.
After the event, Bosworth got his own Instagram For a Q&A session on new technology and live demonstration failures.

In the latter, he explained that it was not really the Wi-Fi that caused the problem with the chef’s glasses. Instead, it was wrong in resource management planning.

“When the chef said,” Hey, Meta, start living AI “, every Ray-Ban Meta live AI started in the building and there were many people in this building,” Bosworth explained. “This obviously didn’t happen in rehearsal, we didn’t have so many things,” he said, referring to the number of glasses activated.
This was not only enough to cause disorder. The second part of the failure was about how Meta had chosen to launch the live AI traffic on the development server to isolate it during the demo. But when he did, he did this for everyone in the building at the access points, which included all headphones.
“That’s why we, basically, with this demo,” Bosworth added. (A DDOS attack or distributed denial attack is the one where a flood flood floods a server or service, slowing it or making it unavailable.
The problem with the failed WhatsApp call, on the other hand, was the result of a new error.
The screen of smart glasses had slept at the precise moment when the call came, Bosworth said. When Zuckerberg woke up the screen, he did not show him the notice of the answer. The CTO said this was a “race status” error or where the result depends on the unpredictable and uncoordinated timing of two or more different processes trying to use the same resource at the same time.
“We have never met this error before,” Bosworth noted. “This is the first time we have ever seen it. It has been corrected now. And this is a terrible, awesome place to make this error occur.” He stressed that, of course, Meta knows how to handle video calls and the company was “bummed” about the error that appears here.
Despite the issues, Bosworth said he was not worried about the effects of malfunctions.
“Obviously, I don’t love it, but I know the product works. I know it has the goods, so it was really a demo it fails and not, like a product failure,” he said.
