Openai says it plans to release its first “open” language model from GPT -2 “in the coming months”.
This is according to one feedback form The company was published on its website on Monday. The form, which Openai calls “developers, researchers and [members of] The wider community “To fill in, includes questions like” What would you like to see in an open weight model from Openai? “And” which open models have you used in the past? “
“We are excited to work with developers, researchers and the wider community to gather input and make this model as useful as possible,” Openai wrote on her website. “If you are interested in joining a feedback session with the Openai team, let us know [in the form] below.”
Openai faces increasing pressure from opponents, such as the Chinese AI Lab Deepseek, who have adopted an “open” approach to launch models. Unlike Openai’s strategy, these “open” competitors make their models available to the AI community for experimentation and, in some cases, commercialization.
It is proven to be a highly successful strategy for some clothes. Meta, who has largely invested in the Llama family of Open Ai Models, said earlier in March that the Lama had gathered more than 1 billion shots.
In a recent Q&A of Reddit, Altman said that he believes that Openai is on the wrong side of the story when it comes to an open supply of his technologies.
‘[I personally think we need to] Understand a different open source strategy, “Altman said.” Not everyone in Openai shares this view and is also not our current higher priority … we will produce better models [going forward]But we will maintain less than one lead than we did in previous years. ”
Altman expanded Openai’s open models in an X Monday post in the afternoon, saying that the upcoming open model would have “logic” capabilities according to the O3-Mini Openai and R1 lines.
