After nearly a decade that serves as a digital time capsule for moments from your life, Snapchat is now a price on its memories. The social media giant announced This free access to mode will be limited to 5GB. If your memories go beyond this limit, you will need to register with one of the new memories of memories.
The company told TechCrunch in an email that the Introductory Storage Provision offers up to 100GB of storage for $ 1.99 per month. Snapchat+ users will reach up to 250GB of storage as part of the monthly subscription of $ 3.99, while Snapchat Platinum users will receive 5TB as part of $ 15.99.
Snapchat explains that when he first started memories, he did not expect to grow up in what he has today, as users have stored over 1 trillion memories on the platform.
“It is never easy to transfer from receiving a free service to pay for it. But we hope that the value we provide with memories is worth the cost,” Snapchat writes in a blog. “These changes will allow us to continue investing to make memories better for our whole community.”
Snapchat will provide 12 months of storage of temporary memories for any memories exceeding the 5GB storage limit. The company notes that users can download memories directly to their devices. If you are above the limit but do not register for a plan, your older snaps will be stored, while the latest storage limit will be deleted.
Snapchat says the change will not affect most users, as the vast majority have under 5GB memories. It will mainly affect those with “thousands of snaps”, the company notes.
Snapchat’s decision to introduce paid storage for its memories allows it to tackle the increasing infrastructure cost and generate revenue from high storage users while maintaining free access to most users.
