Spotify and Warner Music Group (WMG) have revealed a new multi -year deal that covers both recorded music and music publishing, companies announced on Thursday. WMG has labels behind popular artists such as Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran.
Companies said in a press release that “the new agreement will help provide new fan experiences, a deeper list of music and videos, further paid subscriptions and diversified bundles of content”.
Spotify CEO Daniel EK said Tuesday that the company would offer A new level “Superfan” Premium This will include additional features for subscribers. Comments come as Spotify has teased a Hi-Fi tier for years.
The deal between Spotify and WMG follows a similar one between the music flow service and the Universal Music Group (UMG) which was where it was announced Two weeks ago.
With these new offers, Spotify has the opportunity to start new bids to attract more subscribers and boost revenue.
“For Spotify, 2025 is a year of accelerated execution and our Warner Music Group partners share our commitment to rapid innovation and maintaining our top musical offers,” EK said in a press release. “Together, we push the limits of what is possible for audiences worldwide, making subscriptions that have been more attractive, supporting artists and singers.”
The deal introduces a model of direct licensing with Warner Chappell Music, which has a list of more than 1 million copyright in the US and in many other countries.
“This important agreement provides new benefits for artists, singers and fans while unlocking further cooperation expanding the musical ecosystem,” WMG CEO Robert Kyncl said in the announcement. “It’s a big step forward in our vision for greater alignment between rights holders and streaming services. Along with Spotify, we look forward to increasing the value of music as we drive growth, impact and innovation.”
The financial terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.
On Tuesday, Spotify mentioned the fourth quarter profits and scored its first full year of profitability since its founding 17 years ago.
Its operating revenue for the quarter has hit a record of 477 million euros ($ 509.48 million), contributing to total operating revenue of € 1.4 billion ($ 1,495 billion) for the 2024 financial year. Spotify has reported an addition of 35 million monthly active users (MAUs), the largest clean Q4 addition to the company’s history, bringing its total to 675 million.
