A US Court refused Apple to remain in a decision requiring the company to stop charging developers for payments made outside the applications store through applications.
This means that in the US, Apple will no longer be able to charge developers a fee when customers click on a link in their application that gets them out of the App Store for payment, resulting in possible loss of revenue in the company.
“Apple” bears the weight indicating that circumstances justify an exercise [our] discretion ‘, the court said in a deposit. “After reviewing the relevant factors, we are not convinced that a stay is appropriate,” he added.
Epic Games Tim Sweeney’s head welcomed the court’s ruling and said: “The long national nightmare of Apple is over”, A post on X.
In April, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled in favor of Epic Games, saying that Apple was in a “voluntary violation” of a 2021 order that prevented the company from compelling pricing. This essentially means that Apple needs to change applications storage rules and allow developers to freely connect to their website for the purchase of digital goods.
In response, Apple submitted an emergency move last month demanding stay in the court’s ruling. The company also appealed against the decision at about the same time.
Last year, Apple began to allow other applications to connect and use non -Apple payment mechanisms, but it still needed a 27% fee and added what critics were called “terrorism screens”. With the new decision, both practices will be eliminated.
Large companies are already making changes to their applications, with Spotify and Amazon posting new updates that allow users to pay for their subscriptions and markets outside the App Store.
With the World Congress Conference (WWDC) placed for next week, this is a big blow to Apple. Earlier this week, the company published a report saying it created $ 1.3 trillion in billings and sales in 2024. It was added that 90% of these sales did not generate Apple revenue.
