Falls are common to the elderly who live semi-independently. According to In the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is the leading cause of an injury to adults aged 65 years or older. On average, about 10% of these falls are serious, requiring medical care. However, many victims of fall Don’t get the treatment they need.
George Netscher, a software developer with training, watched his grandmother and aunt, both of whom had Alzheimer’s struggle to avoid falls. Worried that his mother could also develop the disease, Netscher founded a technological company safely, looking for a better care solution.
“Technology started in 2015 as part of my doctoral research,” Netscher told TechCrunch. “Safelyyou’s mission is to ensure the highest quality care for the elderly in any care environment.”
Safelyyou, who sells its platform to senior living communities, employs a combination of cameras and sensors powered by AI to detect when a person can fall. Once these sensors detect a fall, they activate the text message and phone alerts to staff so they can watch the fallen person.
Safelyou also maintains a remote clinical group to substantiate every fall. The team makes recommendations to Safelyyou customers so they can take steps to reduce the risk.
“Our specialist clinics have analyzed more than 300,000 events on the ground,” Netscher said, “and regularly reviewing the decline videos, conduct analyzes of basic causes and provide suggestions that help reduce future falls in the upper communities.”
There are other market detection products on the market aimed at older populations. But Netscher claims that Safelyyou is less sensitive to false alarms.
“Some other fall technologies will not detect a fall, unless someone is on the ground for at least 12 seconds, which could lose a person’s fall if he fell and recovered,” Netscher said. “Our technology is completely environment and does not require portable or other inputs by residents or carers.”
Safelyou almost closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, when assisted living facilities across the country were effective. However, the start has managed to pass, however, and now serves about 1,000 upper living communities.
To support Safelyyou’s extension, the company recently closed a Capital series of Capital, Omega Healthcare Investors, Funders Fund, Cross Creek Advisors, Samsung Funders Funders, Next and Qualcomm Ventures.
Netscher says the new chapter, which brings all the security that has increased to over $ 100 million, will be in the direction of developing the company’s team, based in San Francisco.
