Uber’s giant and Chinese autonomous vehicle start is the plan to launch a robbery test in Munich, Germany, starting from 2026-the first mainland European city to publicly announce plans to expand to other markets.
The partnership was first presented in May 2025, when Uber said that vehicles supplied with instantaneously would start on its platform in Europe in 2026, initially with human security operators to monitor vehicles and take control if needed.
Momenta, founded in 2016, is one of China’s first autonomous autonomous vehicles (AV) companies. Beijing-based boot has tried self-guiding cars in China Since 2018 and is considered an important player in the country’s competitive AV market.
Uber’s move puts it in direct competition with other companies that are not expanding the European market. For example, in August, Lyft announced an agreement with China’s Baidu on Robotax Development throughout Europe from next year, starting from Germany and the United Kingdom
Momenta is one of 20 Global AV Partners That Uber brought to the boat throughout driving, delivery and freight. Uber reports that these partnerships have already set up an annual interest rate of 1.5 million mobility and tradition travel.
In the US, Uber offers Waymo’s robbery in its implementation to Austin, Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
At international level, Uber has worked with Momenta and other Chinese AV companies, such as Weride and Pony.ai, to develop robbery on the Uber platform in the Middle East. Uber and Weride are currently offering AV walks in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, with plans to expand to Dubai. Uber and the United Kingdom, Wayve, has also recently announced plans to launch public road tests of 4 AVS level in London.

(Level 4 autonomy means that the vehicle can operate without human intervention under certain conditions.)
Uber said in a statement that he chose Munich as a European launch due to the city’s mechanical heritage and the powerful car ecosystem.
“Germany has shaped the global automaker for more than a century and now Munich will help to shape the future with autonomous vehicles,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, in a statement.
TechCrunch has arrived at Uber and Momenta to find out if they have already begun the certification process in Germany. Momenta should prove to German regulators whose vehicles meet certain safety standards and designed the designed operating areas (called “geographical zones”) approved by the authorities.
The launch could be Momenta’s first robot in Europe. The company has operated a service in Shanghai with plans for commercial development with security operators by the end of this year. As it works to develop its capabilities at Level 4, Momenta also works for the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with partners, including German trademarks such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. Momenta’s Adas has already been installed in 400,000 vehicles sold to customers today, according to the company.
