When Mark Lee was a law student in Harvard, a brand class exposed him to the stunning scale of falsification, an illegal industry worth more than 3 trillion $ per yearAnd he put him on an unexpected course towards entrepreneurship.
“I always liked technology and newly established businesses, but I never really thought I would be a businessman. I guess I was ready to be a lawyer, most of my family members are lawyers and the law was practiced by a natural path.” But when he arrived at Harvard’s law, education was not exactly what he was expecting, Lee said, adding that he began to question whether a career as a corporate lawyer was the right application.
“So I began to explore different ideas. One day, I took a class of trademarks and learned that falsification is the largest criminal business in the world, 3 trillion $ In fake products that are traded each year, about 8% of world trade. What struck me was that during Covid, as everything was moving on the internet, this already huge market was increasing 20% a year, fueled by markets and social media, “Lee continued.
This insight became the seed for StormThe company that later founded in 2021. The name itself reflects its origin: “Marq” from the brand and “vision” from the vision of the computer. The mission was simple but ambitious: the launch of the AI supplied computer to combat the abstraction and breach of the trademark on a global scale.
Fast forward by 2025 and the LA -based AI start, closed a round of B $ 48 million, bringing its total capital to about $ 90 million.
About half of the fresh capital will extend the AI teams and engineers to accelerate automation and integrate AI genetics throughout the product suite. Another $ 10 million is intended for the construction of the business -made platform, as the company moves the upmarket to target larger brands, while an additional $ 10 million will fund regional expansion. It is already active in the US, Korea, China and Europe, Marqvision is now entering Japan, underlining the nature of the IP law and the company’s boost to escalate worldwide.
The funding was guided by Peak XV partners – former Sequoia Capital India & Sea – participating by Salesforce Ventures, HSG (former Sequoia China), Coral Capital and Michael Seibel, a peer partner in Y Combinator. Returning supporters, including YC, Altos Ventures and Atinum Investment, also joined the round.

“Increasingly, top -level investors are looking for technology companies that use AI not only to boost productivity, but to transform the provision of services fundamentally,” Lee explained. “AI is expanding the overall direct market for software from performance tools to execute the project itself-unlocking an opportunity to buy more than $ 10 trillion, while many early stage companies are experimenting with AI to disrupt the intensity industries,
Marqvision serves more than 350 customers worldwide in all industries ranging from fashion and luxury to gambling, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, automaker and consumer electronics. The start reached annual repetitive revenue of $ 1 million within eight months, $ 10 million in three years and recently crossed $ 20 million after four years, doubled along the way annually.
“Our goal is $ 100 million ARR by mid -2027,” Lee said. “Growth could have been faster, but we have prioritized two things: the best experience of customers and the building of a scalable fundamental AI Foundation. As a managed service, we can generate revenue from many bids, but all are linked to a basic promise-their worldwide development.
Once considered a category of excellent technology, the “services” are redefined by AI, which brings the software that resembles scalability and efficiency. This shift has fueled investor interest, with the top XV, HSG and Salesforce Ventures support the company’s vision. The rise of large linguistic models has redefined its position from a “software company with people in the loop” to a leader in the emerging AI service area, drawing strong competition in his last round of funding.
Marqvision began to fight counterfeit, using AI to locate and remove fake products on the internet. As technology proceeded, the launch shifted its focus towards the aid of trademarks to immediately regain lost revenue. Today, many customers report about 5% sales boost, making the platform valuable not only to legal groups, but also to organizations that go on the market that monitor the impact of revenue, according to Lee.
When Lee first put on Marqvision, he envisioned a $ 5 billion software company, selling $ 50,000 tools in 10,000 IP groups worldwide. But YC’s partner Michael Seibel urged him to think bigger – beyond the software – repeating how IP and brand professionals operate. Marqvision has since expanded to end -to -end management services, an opportunity that Lee now believes is 100 times larger than its original plan.
The brand protection usually involves detecting and removing violations such as counterfeit and fake in fake and fake, while brand control goes further, enabling companies to manage their presence in e -commerce, social media, websites and chat platforms, Lee said. Looking forward, the march map includes brand intelligence, providing information on supply chains, pricing strategies and resellers.
“Our vision is to be the backbone of every global trademark that holds the IP-to become the platform of service under the leadership of AI for professionals IP, content and brand worldwide,” Lee said.
