Netflix is increasing its investment in video podcasts, with its latest projects featuring comedian Pete Davidson and Cowboys Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin.
The streaming giant was announced on Wednesday two original video podcasts come to the platform: Irvin’s “The White Housestreaming on January 19th and “The Pete Davidson Show,” which will debut on January 30th.
Both series, available only to Netflix subscribers, are designed to play to the strengths of their hosts’ leads. Davidson already has two comedy specials on the service that are performing well for the streamer. Meanwhile, Irvin stands out as a prominent figure in the world of sports and was the focus of the Netflix documentary series America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. His new show is likely to appeal to the millions of football fans who have already subscribed to the service.
Davidson’s show will feature candid, behind-the-scenes conversations with friends from his own garage airing every Friday, while Irvin’s show will offer in-depth sports news, analysis and commentary twice weekly, along with notable guest co-hosts such as former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
These originals will join Netflix’s growing catalog of video podcasts, along with titles licensed from iHeartMedia, Spotify and Barstool Sports, including “Dear Chelsea,” “My Favorite Murder” and “The Ringer.” Specifically, as part of these licensing agreements, these shows are not fully available on YouTube.
Wednesday’s news comes as Netflix increasingly tries to challenge YouTube’s dominance of the podcast space, with viewers watching over 700 million hours podcasts per month on living room devices in 2025.
However, Netflix is still in the early stages of developing its podcast library. With millions of podcasts available on YouTube, Spotify and other rival platforms, the sheer range of options presents a significant challenge for Netflix. If the company wants to capture a decent chunk of that audience, it has a lot of work to do.
