A little bird
Diameter It reached an agreement with the San Francisco Airport Committee – and by extension the city – to use its vehicles to map the airport roads. These news received widespread coverage because of the city’s ability to finally give the Waymo permit to extend the robot service to the airport. At present, this covers only the mapping and the vehicles will be driven by hand.
Some little birds shared with us the terms of the agreement, which include two important points. A source describes these as “concessions”. And it is likely that these terms will appear in future agreements.
Waymo agreed to share the data after each mapping per vehicle, according to the agreement examined by TechCrunch. This “data interface” requires Waymo to monitor its vehicles as it enters and leaves the airport and provides the time, geographical location, recognition, travel identifier, transaction type, only driver ID and vehicle registration number.
The deal also prohibits Waymo from using autonomous vehicles to move commercial goods. Certainly Waymo no longer has a truck self-guiding program, but the language as it matters to groups like teamsters.
