Nnamdi Emelifeonwu has always been curious about what the professional life was for his colleague Feargus MacDaeid, one of the few registered blind lawyers in the United Kingdom, practiced so much the law of the world company Freshfields.
When you ask what would make his life easier, the answer was clear: “Help me browse complex definitions without losing the framework,” Emelifeonwu told TechCrunch. He realized that the solution to MacDaeid’s request would be useful for any lawyer.
So in 2017, Emelifeonwu and MacDaeid worked to start a legal start of AI, allowing lawyers to review and process complex contracts.
The company, based in the United Kingdom, announced earlier this week a series of $ 30 million B from a mixture of European and North American investors, including Revaia, Alumni Ventures and Beacon Capital. Had previously set a series of $ 7 million last May.
It definitely offers a productivity suite to rationalize the legal pension and revision process. It has a function plan that allows lawyers to read contracts and browse definitions and clauses without losing their position in the document. It has a treasury that allows users to enter clauses with a single click. It has a proof feature, which uses AI to control inconsistencies and broken reports, and has a PDF feature that allows users to export and analyze points from scanned legal documents.
“Looking forward, we base these capabilities with an AI AI system recently called Enhance,” Emelifeonwu said, adding that it has AI agents working with Microsoft Word. “These agents work together to complete the duties throughout the pension, revision and correction, rationalization of work for law professionals, where they already operate.”
Emelifeonwu described the process of raising funds this time as “painful”.
‘One second [word] It can be rewarding, “he said.
The company met with the lead investor of this round, Revaia, through an introduction. The rest of the investors came directly to the company. “We did not reach an investor during B. Series.”
The fresh capital will be used to promote the company’s expansion to the US, which now represents 30% of the company’s revenue, he says. He also hopes to invest further in the AI area and hire more employees.
Others who work in the field of legal contract in this way include companies brightness, Robin AI and Contractpodai.
Emelifeonwu, Nigerian immigrant in the United Kingdom, said he had been dreaming of being a lawyer since he was a child, but as soon as he became one, he was hit in the business spirit. “I always had ideas and I explored some, but when the right idea came, one that fell directly to the challenges I lived in first -hand as a lawyer, I knew I had to follow it,” he continued.
It also understands the importance of such a large round when black founders do not, statistically, represent much of the annual capital rally activity.
“Having increased the fresh capital and building towards a truly global business, it is also a personal milestone and, I hope, a message to others that is possible,” he said. “I want this to inspire the next wave of builders who may not come from traditional trails, but have equally ability to create a constant impact.”
