Tiktok announced on Wednesday that it is expanding the accessibility tool suite with the evolution of Alt Text for photos, a high contrast function and support for device preferences.
Tiktok introduced Alt Text support for photos a few weeks ago, allowing creators to provide descriptive text text to help users with screen readers to understand visual content through oral descriptions. Now, the company is testing the AI-created Alt text to automatically describe the photos loudly when creators do not add manually Alt text.
The company says the AI-created Alt text will make Tiktok more accessible for people with visual damage. Movement comes as Instagram was Using AI for Alt Text from 2018.
As for the new high contrast feature, users will be able to activate it with the new “color control” option in the accessibility section of the application. This will increase the color of the foreground of the elements of the text, the icons and the user interface. This change will make Tiktok more usable for people with low vision or low contrast, the company says.
Tiktok also adheres to the text setting of a user of a user, which means that it will automatically display all in -application text texts when activated. This enhances readability for users who prefer or rely on more bolder fonts.
“We know that when people feel they see, hear and support. They have the power to share their stories. Creating and connecting with others in important ways,” the company said in a blog. “This is why we focus on constant construction of products that serve everyone, we see accessibility not only as a responsibility, but as an opportunity to innovate and promote a more comprehensive platform for our global community.”
The new features are involved in the existing Tiktok accessibility tools suite, which includes features such as automatic captions for video content, dark way, text-speech and the ability to adapt the size of text throughout the application.
