Waymo Robotaxis can now be welcomed in Atlanta via Uber. The two companies, which are already offering the “Waymo On Uber” service in Austin, said on Tuesday that the Commercial Service would initially cover about 65 square miles in Atlanta.
The launch, if successful, is ready to promote the businesses of both companies. Uber, which has locked up in partnerships with 18 autonomous vehicles, said it has an annual 1.5 million mobility and AV route on its network. Meanwhile, Waymo said he was providing 250,000 -paid robots every week across Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco.
Atlanta’s addition to this list should push these numbers.
Waymo’s fleet in Atlanta is in the “dozens” and will eventually expand over time, a company spokesman told TechCrunch. Companies have said in the past that the fleet shared between Atlanta and Austin would rise to hundreds.
The “Waymo On Uber” service is a hybrid of species where robbery and human -driven vehicles are mixed. Uber users can set their preferences in the app to increase the chances of matching a waymo.
This structure differs from other markets where Waymo works. In these cities, riders use the Waymo One app to spoil robbery.
When an Uber user is informed that it has been combined with a waymo, they can choose to accept or go on a human route. Once the Robotaxi arrives, riders will use the Uber app to unlock the vehicle, open the trunk and start the journey.
Robotaxi rides will cost the same as Uberx, Uber Comfort or Uber Comfort Electric driven by a man, companies said.
The “Waymo On Uber” service separates the responsibilities of ownership and operate a car -free fleet. Uber handles the charge, maintenance and cleaning of autonomous vehicles, as well as managing access to robbery through its application. Meanwhile, Waymo is monitoring technology and autonomous businesses, including road aid and certain aspects of Rider support.
Last September, Uber and Waymo announced plans to offer a robot service to Austin and Atlanta in early 2025 as part of an extensive corporate relationship. In March, companies started offering the Robotaxi “Waymo On Uber” service to Austin. Waymo has over 100 robbers in its commercial fleet in Austin, according to the company.
