Waymo is expanding the Robota Service from another 80 square miles in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Gulf area and Silicon Valley, the company said on Tuesday.
Waymo’s commercial service area now covers more than 250 square miles across California, pushing the Jaguar i-Pace vehicles without a driver into new pockets of three densely populated metro. The expansion comes just more than a week after several Waymo Rotaxis burned and vandalized during protests in Los Angeles over Trump’s migration raids.
Waymo hot robbery – images that became emblematic of these protests – prompted the company to pull the service back to Los Angeles. On Friday, Waymo took additional steps and Limited service at national level In preparing the widespread protests on immigration policies.
Waymo spokesman Chris Bonelli said the company is constantly evaluating and adjusting its activities based on traffic conditions, special events and local guidance. He confirmed that the company is still temporarily restricting the Waymo service to parts of Los Angeles, including the city center, and said it would monitor the evolving situation and soon increase the service.
These incidents do not seem to slow down the alphabet company in new markets, however. (New La areas appear in blue.)
Waymo said that on Tuesday, her service will now be available to riders in the communities of Bisbane, Brisbane, South Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae and Burlingame, as well as Silicon Valley’s cities by Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
Waymo said he would extend the LA service area, starting on Wednesday, to the neighborhoods of Playa del Rey, Ladera Heights, Echo Park, Silver Lake and Sunset Avenue. Riders will now be able to travel from Mid-City to Inglewood and Westchester via La Cienega and La Brea, according to Waymo, who says it now serves more than 120 square miles of LA.
The development of the company – in terms of weekly paid trips across San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Austin – has increased five times as much as June 2024. The Waymo commercial fleet includes more than 400 vehicles in Los Angeles and over 600 in the area of the Gulf.
