The Open Social Web Browser Surf Is Integrated With Bluesky

SurfThe new application from the Flipboard to browse the open social fabric extends its support to the Bluesky social network. On Monday, the company announced a new version of the Beta software (called “Blue Wave”), which allows users to connect to the application using their bluesky credentials and then see all the bluesky flows to Surf, including their next flow, Feed Feed and any of the adapted apps in the application. Bluesky.

The new integration will also allow users to access other Bluesky sources when building their own custom flows – such as Bluesky boot packages, which are lists of recommended fans that people build to help new users find connections. Other sources of bluesky, such as lists and custom flows, are also available as sources.

By adding, the surf becomes an alternative to the use of the Bluesky application itself, as you can interact with the Bluesky Network posts, preferring, responding to and repeating them, while preferring and answering users in the Bluesky application on surf.

Explains Flipboard Managing Director Mike McCue, Surf gives you “uninterrupted access” to anyone who publishes in bluesky, mastodon or threads.

“It is the social fabric that brings to life and unifies the social fabric,” he says.

In addition, it sees applications such as surf as a good alternative to central social media, which is filled with content produced by AI.

“AI Overrun is just brutal,” he says. “That is why I really think RSS is so important because it gives you access to all the best contents of YouTube, podcasts and newsletters from real people. By being clear about the sources you choose and looking at the people you trust and what sources they have recommended, it is the power of human connection.

Another new Beta feature is an installation guide that will guide you in the process of creating your own custom supply to Surf – something that the company aims to add to other customized feed tools further on the road.

Here, you can design your own universal timetable of species, combining feed from Mastodon and Bluesky, including the following supplies or other custom supplies, such as Bluesky’s “Popular with Friends” or “Discover”.

The installation driver will also allow you to filter out the content you don’t want to see in these foods, such as politics. There are even switches to hide publications about Donald Trump or Elon Musk if you prefer a more escape.

“A lot of people I have personally talked about are like … I use bluesky to get out of the news. And I don’t want to read about Elon. I don’t want to hear any politics,” McCue explains.

Where Surf is already shining is his ability to help you create your own local foods that combine places from open social networks and other open protocols such as RSS. The latter allows you to add sources such as news websites, blogs, podcasts and youtube channels to your custom flows.

For example, one of McCue’s feed, “technology manufacturers and thinkers”, includes people whose accounts are in Mastodon, Bluesky and YouTube.

The idea is to follow the people and issues that interest you without limiting yourself to a single platform.

At present, all foods are public by default, allowing users to follow the flows made by others. Over time, however, McCue says that your flows will be private so you can choose and choose what you want to share more widely.

You can also modify the design and layout of the feed you create by adjusting the cover image and background color, as well as the choice of what tab is their default.

You can have foods that look more like a twitter/x schedule by adjusting them to the “Discussion” view or if you prefer to focus on images, sound, videos or articles, you can choose other views such as “Look”, “Listen”, “Watch” or “Read” respectively.

Today, several developers manufacture Tiktok or Instagram applications for bluesky, which change the way you see the contents of Bluesky by focusing on a particular type of media. With Surf, you can get the same results without the need for a separate application and without limiting yourself to bluesky contend.

The Beta Beta Surf Blue Wave update proved for the first time at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas and will be released on existing testers. The company will also leave a new wave of beta tester with this version. Surf will later leave Apple’s test testing platform so that the app can reach the limit of 10,000 testers imposed by Apple.

The company also works to attract the Surf application only for iOS.
