Sam Altman and “Friends CEO of Technology” Have a betting pool This year we will see the first company of a billion dollars.

The idea of a person who arrived at a billion dollars for a start would be unthinkable without AI. But one person, the first businesses have germinated throughout the technology industry and Birk Jernström, its chief executive PolarA “platform for creating revenue to strengthen a single single person” stands next to them to help them get there.

Polar hopes to stand out from other payment infrastructure platforms focusing on the needs of developers. With Polar as the “trader record” responsible for the management of billing and taxes, businesses can sell online products and SAAS subscriptions worldwide from day one.

Polar can be applied with a few lines of code, an approach echoed by VC Accel, which led the Polar $ 10 million seed tour. “There is a new generation of AI-Native, early stadiums who want to grow without distractions,” said Associate Brassoveanu.

He also helped that Jernström had exit under his belt. His previous start, Tictail, was acquired by Shopify in 2018 for $ 17 million in an all-cash merger. He and his co -founders created it with the ambition to make online selling products as easy as creating a blog.

“In 2011, we started Tictail with the mission of strengthening anyone starting an online store, we started in 2012 and quickly took off. In a few years we were hosting 100,000+ traders on the platform, very much in the long tail,” said Jernström.

Recognizing that small traders needed more traffic, Tictail developed a market that eventually made it a target for shopify. The Tictail competitor had grown much larger and embarrassed larger traders. But after the iPO, the Canadian company saw the need to look at the consumers’ side of things and believed that the Tictail team could help.

Together with its co -founders and many of their employees, Jernström joined the new Shopify Store Team. “This has finally become what is now known as an app shop and the Pay Pay Ecosystem store I like to be part of the building from zero to one and escalation.”

But in 2021, as he was about to become a father for the first time, Jernström went through a period of self-reflection. This eventually led him to give up his remote role to understand his next move, which proved to be polar.

The split was absolutely friendly, so much so that SHOPIFY CEO Tobias Lütke and President Harley Finkelstein now support the Polar as angels. The “merchant-favorable” culture built on Shopify is rubbed in Jernström.

“I answer over 50 or 60 support tickets a day. I know every customer we work with and it’s a little crazy, but I like to understand what their next steps are on their journey and what Polar can do to make it easier for them,” he said.

Understanding its customer base and its existence open source Helped the polar attraction with the target users. From start In September 2024, the start has increased to 18,000 customers, most of whom are software profits.

This is also reflected in the cover panel, which characterizes the businessmen behind the popular developer: Framer and Raycast, both of which are integrated by Polar. Dub, CornerReset, Supabase, Vercel and Workos. And Lovable, which shares the Swedish roots of Polar and the focus on facilitating construction.

Now, they argue Jernström’s ambition to build a business around the software as easy as platforms such as Supabase and Vercel make it build and scale the software itself.

This is associated with the dynamics of AI for indie hackers and professional developers. But he also connects the dots with him by growing up with a mom entrepreneur as a child. Being a programmer from his teens. And of course, Tictail’s journey to raise young children.

“What Polar I want to do is similar to Shopify: How we enhance more entrepreneurship of developers who can really build and follow their own passions and carry software independently and build businesses around it.”
