Apple and Netflix have entered into a partnership to co-broadcast the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, Apple senior vice president of services Eddy Cue announced Thursday. For the first time, F1 fans in the US will be able to watch the race live simultaneously on both Apple TV and Netflix.

Netflix subscribers will be able to live stream the entire race weekend on the platform – including practice, qualifying and the Grand Prix itself on May 24.

In addition to live race coverage, the partnership includes cross-promotion of Netflix’s hit series, “Drive to Survive.” For the first time, the eighth season – which consists of eight episodes covering the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship – will be available to both Apple TV subscribers in the US and Netflix users worldwide, significantly expanding its audience.

Season 8 premieres today, February 27th.

The rise of F1 in American culture extends beyond television at this point — Brad Pitt’s F1 movie is up for Best Picture at this year’s Oscars. “Drive to Survive” successfully completed attracted a diverse audience for his behind-the-scenes approach, transforming it from a typical sports documentary into a compelling narrative that attracts millions of new fans.

The series has been particularly focused on Apple’s wider F1 ambitions: the company said it plans to promote the sport on Apple News, Apple Maps (highlighting F1 tracks around the world), Apple Music and Apple Fitness+, as well as in physical retail stores.

This partnership also means Netflix continues to push for live sports, after shifting from a “no sports” stance to securing major rights to NFL Christmas games. WWE Rawand MLB.

Additionally, the joint effort comes as part of Apple’s new multi-year deal with Formula 1, which has seen Apple TV replace ESPN as the exclusive US broadcaster for all 24 races starting this season. The deal is reportedly valued at around $150 million per season, a significant jump from around 85 million dollars ESPN reportedly paid up. All matches are available to Apple TV subscribers at no extra charge. The previous partnership with ESPN achieved average ratings 1.3 million in his final year.

It’s worth noting that Netflix was previously reported to be eyeing US media rights for Formula 1 in 2022.
