Instagram co -founder Kevin Systrom says AI companies are trying too hard to “devote themselves to juice” by playing their users with tracking questions, rather than providing really useful knowledge.
Systrom said the tactics represent “a force that hurt us”, comparing them to those used by social media companies to extend aggressively.
“You can see some of these companies going under the rabbit hole that all consumer companies have been diminished trying to juice.” said At Startupgrind this week. “Every time I ask a question, in the end he raises another little question to see if he can get another question from me.”
The comments come in the midst of Chatgpt’s criticism to be very nice to users instead of answering their questions immediately. Openai apologized for the problem and accused “short -term comments” by users for it.
Systrom suggested that over -involved chatbots is not an error, but a deliberate feature designed for AI companies to show measurements such as the time spent and everyday active users. AI companies should “focus on the laser” to provide high quality answers instead of moving measurements in the easiest way possible, he said.
Systrom did not name specific AI companies in his observations. Did not respond immediately to a request for comments.
In response, Openai noted TechCrunch In user specificationswho state that the AI model “often does not have all the information” to give a good answer and can request “clarification or more details”.

But unless the questions are very vague or difficult to answer, the AI should “take a knife when fulfilling the request and tell the user that it could be more useful with some information,” the specifications said.
