Apple announced on Thursday Provides a redesigned blood oxygen feature for some 8 row of 8, series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra. With this movement, Apple brings back blood oxygen monitoring by adapting the feature to overcome the prohibition on the introduction of the International Commerce Committee (ITC).
Blood oxygen data will be measured and calculated on the user’s paired iPhone and the results can be displayed in the Department of Respiratory Application of the Health Application. This means that users will not be able to see the data on their Apple Watch as they have to do so on their iPhone.
Apple reports that the update announced today is activated by a recent US customs decision, which means that the technological giant is allowed to introduce Apple watches with the redesigned oxygen characteristic.
Change does not affect models previously sold with the original version of the feature or units purchased outside the US
The redesigned feature only applies to Apple watches sold after the ITC entry prohibition in early 2024. These users can access the redesigned blood oxygen feature through a iPhone and Apple Watch software update on Thursday.
The move comes as Apple was in a continuing legal dispute with Masimo Medical Manufacturer, who accused the technological giant of stealing pulsed oxymetry technology after initial talks on a possible collaboration.
In 2023, Masimo secured a victory over Apple In the ITC to prevent Apple watch imports with blood monitoring, after the Commission found that Apple’s technology violated Masimo’s patents. Apple then had to remove the operation.
