If you have been upgraded to a newer iPhone model recently, you probably have noticed that Apple Intelligence appears in some of your most used applications, such as messages, mail and notes. Apple Intelligence (yes, also abbreviation with AI) appeared in the Apple ecosystem in October 2024 and is here to stay as Apple competes with Google, Openai, Anthropic and others to build the best AI tools.
What is Apple Intelligence?
Cupertino’s marketing executives have an Apple Intelligence name: “AI for the rest”. The platform is designed to take advantage of the things that genetics is already doing well, such as text and image production, to improve existing features. Like other platforms, such as Chatgpt and Google Gemini, Apple Intelligence has been trained in large information models. These systems use deep learning to form connections, whether they are text, images, videos or music.
The text offer, powered by LLM, is presented as writing tools. The feature is available in various Apple applications, including mail, messages, pages and notifications. It can be used to provide long text, correction and even write messages for you, using content and tone prompts.
The creation of images has also been incorporated in a similar way – though a little less seamless. Users can push Apple Intelligence to create custom emojis (Genmojis) in Apple House style. The playground of the image, meanwhile, is an autonomous application of images that uses instructions for creating visual content that can be used in messages, keynote or shared through social media.
Apple Intelligence also marks a long-awaited Siri Navigator. The smart assistant was early in the game, but he has been neglected for the most part in recent years. Siri is much deeper into Apple operating systems. For example, instead of the familiar icon, users will see a shiny light around the edge of the iPhone screen when it does it.
Most importantly, the new Siri works in all applications. This means, for example, that you can ask Siri to edit a photo and then introduce it directly into a text message. It is an experience without friction that the assistant had previously. Screen awareness means that Siri uses the framework of content it is currently dealing with to give an appropriate answer.
Moving on to WWDC 2025, many were expected that Apple would introduce us to an even more super-up version of Siri, but we should wait a little longer.
“As we have shared, we continue our work to deliver the features that make Siri even more personal,” said Apple SVP of Craig Federighi’s mechanical software on WWDC 2025.
This even more personalized version of Siri is supposed to be able to understand the “personal framework”, such as your relationships, communication routine and much more. But according to a Bloomberg report, the version in the development of this new Siri is Too much error to sendHence its delay.
At WWDC 2025, Apple also presented a new AI feature called Visual Intelligence, which helps you to search images for things you see as you breathe. Apple also presented a live translation feature that can translate real -time conversations on messages, Facetime and phone applications.
Visual intelligence and live translation are expected to be available later in 2025, when iOS 26 is launched in the public.
When was Apple Intelligence revealed?
After months of speculation, Apple Intelligence took the focus on WWDC 2024. The platform was announced after a AI genetic news torrent from companies such as Google and Open AI, causing concern that the famous tight giant technician had lost the boat to the latest technological craze.
Unlike such speculations, however, Apple had a team in place, working on what proved to be a very Apple approach to artificial intelligence. There was still pizzazz among Demos – Apple always loves to put in a show – but Apple Intelligence is ultimately a very realistic assumption in the category.
Apple Intelligence is not an autonomous feature. On the contrary, this is the integration of existing offers. While it is a brand exercise in a very real sense, Loger Language Model (LLM) technology will work behind the scenes. As far as the consumer is concerned, technology will mostly be presented in the form of new features for existing applications.
We have learned more during the Apple iPhone 16 event in September 2024. During the event, Apple has put a series of AI features coming to its devices, from the translation to Apple Watch Series 10, the visual search on iPhones and a series of tweaks on Siri’s capabilities. The first wave of Apple Intelligence arrives at the end of October, as part of iOS 18.1, iPados 18.1 and Macos Sequoia 15.1.
The features first started in US English. Apple later added Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Support for Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese will reach 2025.
Who gets Apple Intelligence?

The first wave of Apple Intelligence arrived in October 2024 via iOS 18.1, iPados 18., and Macos Sequoia 15.1 updates. These updates included comprehensive writing tools, images cleaning, articular summaries and typing import to the redesigned Siri experience. A second wave of features was made available in the context of iOS 18.2, iPados 18.2 and MacOS Sequoia 15.2. This list includes, Genmoji, Playground Image, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand and Chatgpt Integration.
These offers are free to use as long as you have one of the following material pieces:
- All iPhone 16 models
- iPhone 15 pro max (A17 Pro)
- iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro)
- ipad pro (m1 and later)
- ipad air (m1 and later)
- ipad mini (A17 or newer version)
- MacBook Air (M1 and later)
- MacBook Pro (M1 and later)
- iMac (m1 and later)
- Mac mini (M1 and later)
- Mac Studio (M1 max and later)
- Mac Pro (M2 Ultra)
Specifically, only the editions of the iPhone 15 have access to the modes of the model model. Probably, however, the entire iPhone 16 line will be able to run Apple Intelligence when it arrives.
How does Apple’s AI work without internet connection?

When asking a GPT or Gemini question, your query is sent to external servers to create an answer that requires internet connection. But Apple has received a small model approach, custom -made to education.
The biggest advantage of this approach is that many of these tasks become much less intensive and can be executed on the device. This is because, instead of based on the type of kitchen sink approach platforms such as GPT and Gemini, the company has drawn up data sets for specific tasks such as, say, composing an email.
But this is not true for everything. The most complex questions will use the new private cloud compute offer. The company now operates remote servers executed in Apple silicon, which claims to allow it to provide the same level of privacy as its consumer devices. Whether an action is performed locally or through the cloud will be invisible to the user unless their device is offline, so remote questions will throw an error.
Apple Intelligence with third -party applications

Many noises were made about Apple’s pending collaboration with Openai before Apple Intelligence. In the end, however, it turned out that the deal was less for Apple Intelligence’s supply and to offer an alternative platform for these things that are not really designed for. It is a tacit recognition that building a small model has its limitations.
Apple Intelligence is free. Also, it is access to chatgpt. However, those who have paid bills in the latter will have access to Premium features of free users, including unlimited questions.
The integration of Chatgpt, which debuts on iOS 18.2, iPados 18.2, and MacOS Sequoia 15.2, has two primary roles: completing Siri’s knowledge and adding existing writing tools.
With the activated service, some questions will push the new Siri to ask the user to approve Chatgpt access. Recipes and travel planning are examples of questions that may impose the choice. Users can also immediately push Siri to “ask Chatgpt”.
Compose is the other primary Chatgpt feature available through Apple Intelligence. Users can access any application that supports the operation of new writing tools. Compose adds the ability to write content based on a prompt. This unites existing writing tools such as style and abstract.
We know for sure that Apple plans to work with additional AI genetic services. The company said Google Gemini is next in this directory.
Can developers rely on Apple’s AI models?
At WWDC 2025, Apple announced what the foundation models Framework calls, which will allow developers to use AI models while offline.
This makes it more likely for developers to manufacture AI features in third -party applications utilizing Apple’s existing systems.
“For example, if you are ready for an exam. An application such as Kahoot can create a personalized quiz from your notes to make the study more exciting,” Federighi told wwdc. “And because it happens using models on devices, this happens at no API Cloud cost […] We could not be more excited about how developers can rely on Apple Intelligence to bring you new experiences that are smart, available when you are offline and protect your privacy. “
