Apple has changed the rules of the App Store in the US to allow applications to connect users to their own websites so they can buy subscriptions or other digital products.
This change comes after a US court that has decided in favor of Epic Games in a case against the iPhone manufacturer, ordering the latter not to ban applications from including features that could redirect users to their own websites for digital markets.
“Application review lines have been informed of compliance with a decision of the United States Court of Justice, external links and other applications for action”, Apple said in a blog post.
The trial of the epic games in 2020 concerned the amount of Apple’s control over the transactions made in applications hosted in its applications store. In 2021, the game studio won an order that ordered Apple to give developers more options to redirect users to their own websites to avoid paying the technological giant with a 30%cut.
After its appeal against the order failed, Apple began to allow other applications to connect and use out -of -Apple payment mechanisms, but it still needed a 27% commission and also added which critics were called “Scare Screens”.
This week’s decision means that Apple should stop showing these “terrorists”, and the company has already removed instructions around How these screens and links must contain a specific language.
We asked Apple to confirm whether it will stop charging applications a commission for payments made through external links and we will inform the story if we hear back.

As for Apple, it is not happy with the decision. “We strongly disagree with the ruling. We will comply with the court order and appeal,” the company said in a statement.
Spotify, which has also struggled with Apple on the same issue in various geographical areas, has has already submitted a version of its application to the US App Store with links to allow users to buy their subscription externally.
