Google is testing a new “Ask For Me” feature that uses AI to call local businesses on your behalf, for information on availability and pricing. The operation is available on a desktop and mobile for users who have chosen the company Search laboratories Experiments.
The idea is to help users access information without having to pick up the phone and talk to someone.
To get started, ask me to be used to ask for services in nail lounges and car shops.
If you are registered with search laboratories, you can access the new feature by looking for local services such as “oil change” or “nail lounges nearby”. Then you will see a “Ask for Me” option with a “Starting” button.
You are then asked to enter details about this service, such as a “tire replacement”, “factory planned maintenance”, “French manicure”, “nail art” and much more. From there, you can enter information about the time frame. Google’s AI will then make calls to local businesses on your behalf and send you a summary of prices and availability.
The launch comes as Google is looking for ways to help users save time when they come into contact with business with the help of AI. Last year, the company published a feature called “Talk in a Live Rep” that gives a call to a business on your behalf, waiting for a wait and then calls you when a live representative is available.
The function is exempt from the need for users to wait countless minutes and sometimes hours, listening to the music trying to connect with a customer service agent.
In terms of other Search Labs, Google recently launched “Daily Listen”, which is a personalized AI audio experience designed to help you stay up to date with a personalized news flow.
