Former Openai CTO Mira Murati announced her new start. It is not surprising that it focuses on AI.
Called Thinking machineryStarting, which came out of stealth today, intends to create tools to “make AI work for [people’s] Unique needs and goals “and create AI systems that” are widely understood, adaptable and generally capable of those available today.
Murati is directed to the thinking machinery as CEO. Openai’s co -founder John Schulman is the company’s lead scientist and Barret Zoph, former Openai leader, is the CTT.
In a publication on the blog shared with TechCrunch, the Meginily Machines thought laboratory wrote that while AI has progressed dramatically, “basic gaps” remain.
“Understanding the scientific community on AI Systems is delaying behind the rapidly advanced possibilities,” the blog post says. “Knowing the way the systems are trained is concentrated within top research laboratories, limiting both public discourse for AI and people’s abilities to effectively use AI. And, despite their potential, these systems They remain difficult for people to adapt to their specific needs and values.
The Thinking Machines laboratory plans to focus on building “multimodal” systems that “work with people collaborating”, according to the blog post and this can be “adapted to the full range of human expertise and allow a wider range of applications.
“[W]E are construction models at the border of potential in areas such as science and programming, “the blog post said.” Eventually, the most advanced models will unlock the most transformative applications and benefits, such as the possibility of new scientific discoveries and engineering discoveries. “
AI Security will be another basic principle of workshop workshop work. The company said it plans to contribute to security by preventing abuse of the models it releases, sharing optimal practices and recipes for building AI safe systems with industry and supporting external research on alignment with code sharing, sets Data and model specifications.
“We will focus on understanding how our systems create genuine value in the real world,” writes the Thinking Machines workshop on his blog. “The most important discoveries often come from the review of our goals, not just optimizing existing measurements.”
I began to think of the engine lab alongside a remarkable team of scientists, engineers and builders. We create three things:
– Helping people to adapt AI systems to work for their specific needs
– Developing strong foundations to build more AI systems
– Promoting a…– Mira Murati (@Miramurati) 18 February 2025
Murati left Openai last October after six years in the company. At that time, she said she left to “make her own exploration”.
Murati came to Openai in 2018 as Vice President of Applied AI and Corporate Relations. After being promoted to CTO in 2022, he led the company’s work to Chatgpt, the text-in the image Ai Dall-e and the code of system that creates code, which fed early versions of GitHub’s Copilot programming.
Mirati was briefly the temporary chief executive of Openai after a sharp firing of CEO Sam Altman. Altman described it as a close ally.
For months, rumors have thrown Murati hiring high profile AI researchers and executives for an AI business. The Machines Machines Lab blog is 29 employees from Openai, AI and Google Deepmind, among other top businesses.
The Thinking Machines Lab workshop is actively hiring scientists and engineers of the mechanical learning, as well as a research program manager, according to the company’s position.
At one point, Murati is said to have been in talks to raise more than $ 100 million from VC public limited companies. The blog did not confirm it or denied it.
Prior to Openai, Murati spent three years in Tesla as the X-Model X, the Crossover SUV of the automotive industry, during which Tesla released early Autopilot versions, the AI-with AI-with Ai-with Ride Drive. He was also Vice President of Product and Engineering at Leap Motion, a start of hand and finger motion sensors.
Murati is involved in a growing list of former Openai Execs that launches newly formed businesses, including opponents such as safe overcarriage and humanity Ilya Sutskever.
