The 83rd Golden Globes was a standout night for streaming platforms. Netflix led the pack with seven wins, while Apple TV and HBO Max each secured three awards and Hulu took home one.
Among Netflix’s highlights, the hit series “Adolescence” won four awards, including best limited series. The show also won Best Actor (Steven Graham), Supporting Actor (Owen Cooper) and Supporting Actress (Erin Doherty) in a Miniseries. Netflix’s most-watched title, “KPop Demon Hunters,” won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
Netflix’s Golden Globes award comes just as the company is gearing up for its biggest move in Hollywood: the acquisition of Warner Bros. The awards underscore Netflix’s growing dominance and may reassure investors that the company is ready to manage the legacy of a powerhouse like Warner Bros.
As for other streamers, Apple TV won two awards for “The Studio,” one for Best TV Series (Musical or Comedy) and another for Best Actor in a TV Series, which went to Seth Rogen. Rhea Seehorn also secured Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama for her performance in “Pluribus.”
HBO found success with the medical drama “The Pitt,” which picked up two Golden Globes, including one for actor Noah Wylie. HBO’s third award was for Outstanding Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Jean Smart, “Hacks”).
Hulu’s lone win came from Michelle Williams, who won best actress in a limited or anthology series for “Dying for Sex.” However, Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” “Paradise,” “Chad Powers” and “The Bear” didn’t turn their nominations into wins.
Meanwhile, Disney+ received 15 nominations — including “Andor” and “Elio” — but didn’t secure any wins this year.
