Netflix has launched a new TV experience for kids’ profiles on its service globally, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Tuesday. The update, which aims to simplify design and navigation, is the company’s latest effort to more quickly connect users to content they’ll like.
In May, Netflix was introduced a similar redesign of the TV home page for standard profiles, which added an AI-powered search tool, better suggestions and more visible shortcuts, among other changes.
Now the company says the same update has made its way to kids’ profiles, along with other tweaks aimed specifically at younger Netflix users.
The new design simplifies the look and feel of the home page. It also offers a new navigation bar at the top that links to “My Netflix,” a section that brings together everything kids have watched, saved, and loved in one place. This makes it easy for users to revisit their favorite content — something younger users often do by re-watching their top movies and episodes.
Additionally, Netflix says that kids’ suggestions will refresh in real time, just like standard profiles. The company hopes this will reduce the time kids spend looking for something to watch.
However, some things in the children’s profile will not change: character-themed series, Mystery Box Suggestionsand parental controls are still available.
Netflix also announced other updates to Netflix today, including features like real-time voting, live party games, podcasts, and more. Next year, for example, Netflix will launch real-time voting for its upcoming new show “Star Search,” following earlier tests with “Dinner Time Live with David Chang.”
The company says the new user interface ties into these changes, offering a more flexible canvas for different types of creative content, including interactive content.
