A Singalong version of the Netflix Animated movie “Kpop Demon Hunters” is on the spot to earn $ 18 million to $ 20 million in theaters this weekend, making the number one movie in the domestic box office. And this is only in theaters for two -thirds of the weekend (ie Saturday and Sunday).

This is not the first time a flow title has exceeded Box Office diagrams. In fact, Apple’s “F1” (distributed to US theaters by Warner Bros.) opened in even more impressive $ 57 million earlier this summer. But this marks the first time Netflix had the biggest movie in theaters.

Niki comes with some asterisks, especially that Netflix does not announce the box office returns. Therefore they are not official numbers from the streamer but rather Preliminary weekend estimates from other sources in industry.

This was, of course, a quiet weekend, without big new releases. In addition to “Kpop Demon Hunters”, the top film was “Weapons”, which made about $ 15.4 million on the third weekend in theaters for a domestic total of $ 115 million.

Still, this feels like a milestone for a company that has avoided traditional theatrical editions (an attitude that may have removed some of its most successful filmmakers). The nearest coming is a one -week release from Rian Johnson’s “Onion Glass” Estimated $ 15 million in theaters. And then there is the adjustment of Greta Gerwig “Narnia”, which will probably make even greater Box Office numbers when starts exclusively on IMAX screens next autumn.

This is also an impressive victory for a movie available in streaming from the end of June and has already climbed to number two note Netflix’s graph for the most watched Netflix movieswith more than 210 million views. (They are sandwiches, in a way, between “red alert” and “carry-on”).

It is produced by Sony Pictures Animation and with a largely Korean/Korean American Voice Cast, “Kpop Demon Hunters” tells the story of a K-Pop Girl team that, yes, it also chases demons, including an opponent of a band. “Golden”, a song from the film’s soundtrack, exceeded plate diagrams and has been transmitted over 400 million times on Spotify.
