Qualcomm has acquired its AI genetic section VinegarA AI research company based in Hanoi, for a non -announced amount, companies announced Monday.
The movement marks the continuing expansion of Qualcomm to AI tools. Vinai, founded by the former Deepmind Hung Bui scientist, develops a series of AI genetic technologies, including algorithms and linguistic models.
“This acquisition highlights our commitment to dedicate the necessary resources to R&D that makes us the driving force behind the next wave of AI innovation,” said Qualcomm SVP of engineering Jilei Hou in a press release. “By attracting Vinai high -level talents, we are enhancing our ability to provide AI solutions that will benefit a wide range of industries and consumers.”
Vinai, launched by the Bui in 2019, focuses mainly on AI -powered car products, but also conducts a higher AI research. Supported by Vingroup, a Vietnamese complex, the company creates solutions such as monitoring, safety and “smart parking” systems for motorways and customers in other verticals.

Bui said he expects Vinai to contribute to many Qualcomm product families, including software and chips for smartphones, computers and vehicles. “The experience of our team in AI genetic learning and mechanical learning will help to accelerate the development of innovative solutions that can transform the way we live and work,” he added in a statement.
Bui, who serves as Vinai’s chief executive, will participate in Qualcomm after the redemption is closed, according to the press release.
Vinai’s acquisition is Qualcomm’s second this year after the purchase of Edge Impulse, a German company AI and Internet of Things Company, in early March. Managing Director of Qualcomm Cristiano Amon recently called Edge AI – AI that can run on devices without the need for data center infrastructure – a “tailwind” for the technological giant.
