Since the app that creates a video of OpenAi Sora fell to position No. 1 on the American App Store now technically a bigger first week than Chatgpt on iOS, according to new data from Provider App Intelligence Competence. Its estimates show that Sora saw 627,000 iOS shooting in its first seven days of availability, compared to the 606,000 Chatgpt iOS downloads during the first week.
Shortly after the publication of this article, Openai’s head, Bill Pevebles, announced That Sora reached a million shots in less than five days. He said it was faster than Chatgpt, despite the fact that Sora was only for an invitation. (Sora is only for iOS for now.)
Chatgpt was only available in the US during the first week, and Sora is currently offered in the US and Canada at the start. Still, Appfigures data showed that Canada contributed about 45,000 facilities, so Sora’s launch was about 96% of Chatgpt’s launch only on iOS if the data was based only on US numbers.
This level of consumer adoption is worth noting because Sora requires an invitation to enter, while the chatgpt was available to the public when launching. This makes Sora’s performance more impressive.
During the first day, Sora saw 56,000 iOS apps installed in a short period of time, hitting the app to make the first overall application in the US App Store, Appfigures said. Until Friday, October 3, No. 1 reached, the fact that Surge had already put Sora’s debut in front of other major Ai app launches, including Anthropic and Microsoft Copilot Claude and put it on the same level as Xai’s launch.
A quick scan of social media provides many anecdotes that support Appfigures. Sora videos, which use the new Sora 2 video model and allow users to create realistic bases, seem to be everywhere. Users even create deep dead people, a case of use that prompted Zelda Williams, daughter of the latest actress Robin Williams, to ask people to stop sending the AI images produced by her father.
Per AppFigures, the application has seen a steady adoption since its first day on the market, September 30, 2025. Its data shows that daily downloads on iOS affect a high sign 107,800 downloads on October 1, 2025.
While this is not as high as earlier in the week, it is still decent numbers for an application that not everyone can use.
