Waymo has begun to offer adolescents for families in Phoenix as he works to extend the base of user and fragment young riders in autonomous life.
Waymo’s teenage accounts will be similar to those offered by Uber, which also allows parents to make adolescent accounts in Phoenix and other cities across the country. Parents at Metro Phoenix can connect a profile to Waymo One represent adolescents aged 14 to 17 years. Teenagers will be able to order their own walks and share the travel status with parents.
The opening of autonomous vehicles to children who could bring the peace of mind to some parents who could otherwise block their child in a car only with another adult, even though driving companies such as Uber say they combine adolescents with a high degree of safe drivers. And in states like California, where drivers carrying children are required to take fingerprints, AVS could remove part of bureaucracy.
That is, if parents trust the safety of a car driven by AI.
Other security concerns come to mind when you imagine teenagers who only drive cars. While Uber and Lyft say they are training their drivers to locate human trafficking, sexual criminals were able bypassing the system to carry minors.
TechCrunch asked Waymo how he is able to confirm that the teenager who is linked to an adult’s account is part of this family, as well as the steps the company takes if other riders enter the vehicle with the teenager.
A representative of Waymo did not answer the first question. He said security is Waymo’s top priority, as evidenced by special support agents available to help children during their 24/7 walks, who could reach parents for additional support if needed.
In a press release, Waymo emphasized that providing adolescents with a safer way of transportation through robbery would help to tackle the highest risk of traffic accidents faced by teens.
While Waymo starts from Phoenix, the company said it would expand adolescent accounts in cities outside California wherever the Waymo app is available. In addition to Los Angeles and the Bay area, Waymo takes advantage of a Robot Trade Service through the Uber app in Austin and Atlanta and plans to start in Miami this year and Washington, DC, in 2026.
One spokesman said Waymo may consider allowing access to adolescents through “network partners” such as Uber in the future.
