Threads, Meta’s X rival, continues to ship new features at a rapid pace. Shortly after the launch of communities and the disappearance of “ghost posts”, the social networking app on Thursday introduced new tools that will give users more control over their conversations on the platform.
A new feature, reply approvals, will let you decide which replies from other users appear on your posts — before anyone else sees them.
While Threads, like other social networks, already offers tools that let you limit replies to the people you follow, your followers, or the people you mention, the new feature lets you keep your replies open to everyone without the negative consequences of derailing conversations.
As the company explains, these tools will help you “set the tone of the conversation” and give users more options. It’s a unique way to balance users’ interest in participating in more public conversations, but one where the poster — not the responders — still has the power.
In addition, the company is rolling out new activity feed filters that will allow you to more easily view responses from people you follow or those that include mentions. These join other options like Verified, Offers, Reposts and more as other ways to filter responses.

After was announced During its third-quarter earnings call this week, Threads has now reached 150 million daily active users, up from more than 100 million in December 2024. In August, the company said the network had also surpassed more than 400 million monthly active users.
As the app grows, Meta is working to quickly monetize its traction, having now launched ads on the platform globally. It is now move to launch video ads.
Threads continues to roll out more consumer-facing features, as Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced this week that Threads is now testing the controls which will allow users to tune their algorithm by adding and removing topics based on their interests.
