TikTok announced Thursday that it’s launching “bulletin board,” a new feature that allows brands and creators to share public messages with their followers. Bulletin Board is essentially TikTok’s own version of Instagram’s broadcast channels feature that launched in 2023.
As with broadcast channels on Instagram, only the creator of a bulletin board can post messages, and followers are limited to leaving emoji reactions. Bulletin boards support text, image and video posts.
The feature is available to creators who are at least 18 years old and have 50,000 followers.
The idea behind the feature is to make it easier for creators and companies to build community by sharing news and updates with their followers, as well as publishing exclusive content. For example, instead of posting updates through a story or regular TikTok post, creators can share them on their bulletin board. The feature also allows accounts to promote their content by sending it directly to followers.
The launch comes as no surprise as TikTok was spotted testing the feature in June.
During the beta phase, TikTok says artists and musicians used the bulletin board to share newly released music with followers and invite them to pre-save upcoming releases. In addition, People magazine and Paris Saint-Germain used the feature to share news and updates.
“Like everything on TikTok, all content must adhere to our Community Guidelines, which we enforce using a combination of technology and a human moderator,” TikTok explained in a blog post. “Our safety tools for muting, blocking, and reporting users and content are available on the bulletin board to help keep communities safe and positive.”
Creators can start a bulletin board by going to their inbox and selecting the option. They can change “Show on profile” toggle on or off to change the visibility of their bulletin board. Additionally, they can choose a name for their bulletin board.
To join a bulletin board, users can click on the bulletin board name below the creator’s bio on their profile. Once a follower opts in to a creator’s message board, they will receive notifications in their inbox every time the creator posts.
