In May 2023, Ford caused a transformation when the US car industry was locked in agreement to give EVS owners access to the Supercharger Tesla network.

In a stunning shift, the automaker after the car industry – from GM and Hyundai to Rivian and Mercedes – followed his example. By the end of 2023, almost every major automotive industry agreed to adopt the Tesla (NACS) charging model and promise EV owners that adapters will soon be on their way.

Many non-teesla customers are still waiting. However, recent announcements by automakers can provide an electrical investment of optimism.

TechCrunch is watching which brands have access to the Tesla turbochargage network and will update this list.

The displacement to the Tesla EV charging standard

In November 2022, Tesla shared the design of Contector Charging EV in an attempt to encourage networks and automakers to adopt technology and help build the new standard in North America. At that time, every other automaker used the combined charging standard (CCS) in North America.

Mass adoption seemed unlikely at that time, although Tesla’s charging network was considered much higher thanks to the powerful and user -friendly design and ease of payment for EV juice.

Six months later, Ford became the first to announce that she would work with Tesla on a deal that would give her clients access to more than 12,000 turbochargers in all the US and Canada. But it wasn’t just to give Ford EV owners access to a special adapter. Ford also pledged to incorporate EK’s future with NACS ports instead of CCS.

Rivian, GM, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Lucid and Stelantis.

Frequently Questions for Tesla Charging

In the US today, there are 36,499 NACS ports available publicly (although some may come from other EV charging companies that have adapted the Tesla standard), compared to about 16,925 CCS ports. This is happening Federal dollars who have explicitly gone to build CCS chargers.

For EV owners stuck with a CCS port, they should keep adapters approved by the manufacturer. While there are some third -party adapters claiming to comply with certain safety and performance standards such as Lectron’s turbine plug For $ 199, Tesla’s website He says adapters are forbidden.

A GM spokesman told TechCrunch that its adapters are specifically designed to protect GM EV batteries while charging and that the vehicle warranty does not cover damage to the vehicle components resulting from the use of non -approved GM adapters.

In late August, Tesla published in X that he had increased the production of adapters. This statement, coupled with the GM announcement, could mean that even more non-teesla EVs will soon pull the turbocharger soon. Everyone should download the Tesla app so they can pay for a charge.

Tesla Supercharging Access Control List

Passage

Some Ford customers officially gained access For Tesla turbochargers in February, but ongoing supply restrictions have delayed the delivery of free fast charging adjustments for most customers (although Ford says delays have affected “some” customers).

Today’s owners of Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 Lightning who have not yet ordered their adapter can do so through the Ford Pass app. The deadline for submitting applications for free adapter is September 30th.

General engine

Since September 2024, GM has finally updated the software in Chevy, Cadillac and GMC EVS so that customers can use Tesla turbochargers. If they want to access soon, they must buy an “approved GM” adapter through their application for $ 225.

GM wouldn’t say how much the mission would get. A GM spokesman said the company already had an inventory of adapters and that it has worked with many suppliers to build the NACS DC rapidly charging adapters.

From 2025 onwards, the GM’s HKEs will be manufactured with the NACS charging port.

Motor Hyundai team

The South Korean automaker has made several moves to give EV owners access to Nacs chargers next year.

Kia announced In September, its plans to give EV owners access to Nacs chargers from January 15, 2025. They used the announcement as a promotion, offering customers who buy a new 2024 EV6 or 2024 or 2025 EV9 SUV from September 4 2024 one Free adapter send them to the beginning of 2025 if there is enough offer. Existing KIA EV6, EV9 and Niro EV customers who received a delivery before September 4 will have to buy an adapter from a “later date” dealer.

But for those who do not want to bother with an adapter, Kia shared some news on the La Auto Show in November. Both 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 GT will be made with a Nacs plug. EV6 is is expected to be released the first half of 2025, and EV9 GT in the last half of next year.

THE 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the 2026 ELECTIFIED GV70 They were both presented with Nacs plugs on the La Auto Show and promise drivers access to the Tesla Supercharger network. But for customers who want a Hyundai EV earlier than that, the automaker said in December that it would send customers who bought or leasing an EV before January 31st a free Nacs adapter.

Clear

Owners of Lucid Gravity SUV will have access to Tesla’s Supercharger Network on January 31, 2025. Gravity is built with NACS charging port.

People who have already purchased the Lucid Air Sedan, built with CCS port, will have access to adapters to the Supercharger network in the second quarter.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz said in January that his EC will have access to the Tesla network that begins in February 2025. Mercedes offers existing EV customers the opportunity to buy an adapter made by Lectron for $ 185 through authorized delegations. The automotive industry plans to develop its first vehicles with factory installed NACS ports later this year. Mercedes has not yet shared which models will come first.

Mercedes will add Supercharger Tesla sites to its application charger in the application and the system will be incorporated with the automotive plug & charge mode, which begins the charge as soon as the customer is connected.

Mayan

Starting at the end of 2024, Mayan Plans to access Ariya drivers to the Tesla network through an NACS adapter. The automotive industry also said that in 2025, it would start offering EVS for US and Canadian Nacs ports.

Rivia

Ev Rivian’s starting official access to 15,000 turbochargers across North America on March 18, 2024. At that time, Rivian promised to start sending customers to customers Starting in April. A Rivian spokesman told TechCrunch that the automotive industry began the tradition this spring and continues to carry adapters as quickly as it receives.

Since September 2024, Rivian said that customers ordering a new vehicle will have an adapter that is automatically sent to them when receiving delivery. Customers will receive the adapter within seven to 10 business days. EV-Maker also promised that those who already have a Rivian and still wait for an adapter will receive one at no cost by the end of January 2025.

Volvo (and Polestar)

The two Swedish car brands belonging to Geely in China started offering their EV customers Access to Tesla’s turbocharger Network at the end of October.

Volvo said it will include a free Nacs adapter for each customer who buys 2025 ex90, ex40 or EC40. Existing Volvo EV owners will have to pay $ 230 for an adapter, which they can buy from a delegation or service center.

Polestar also sells the adapter through the service centers. Both trademarks gave a date in mid -November when they started shipping adapters. Volvo and Polestar also update Android entertainment software so that drivers can search for Tesla turbocharger in the vehicle navigation.

TechCrunch will update the list as automakers are formal access.
