Rivian will sell its commercial electric trucks to any US company that wants one – more than a year since it terminates an exclusive deal with Backer Amazon.
The company will sell two trucks – the smallest 500 and the largest 700 – but buyers should be registered companies, according to the company. This means that every promising van-lifers should wait and see if Rivian ever sells them directly.
Start of the Van Fleet commercial operation opens a possible flow of revenue that has been dormant since Rivian and Amazon have finished their exclusive agreement in November 2023. It can promote losses before the start of a more accessible SUV .
Rivian has been identified by many Tests with potential fleet customers. And the EV manufacturer has spent the past year preparing a fleet trade line for a broader range of businesses, which included infrastructure, digital infrastructure and feedback from fleet customers, according to spokesman Tanya Miller.
“During the last year we have focused our efforts on testing with some larger fleets and we are really happy with the way these tests have gone,” said Tom Solomon, senior Rivian’s development manager.
Rivian began to produce the merchant trucks in 2021, two years after Amazon’s announcement that it had ordered 100,000 vehicles as part of an effort to reduce the climate impact. Amazon had already invested deep in Rivian when it hit the commercial truck exclusivity agreement. Just seven months ago, the e -commerce giant led a round of $ 700 million to Rivian.
Amazon now has 20,000 commercial trucks that Rivian produced in his fleet, according to Solomon.
