Buzzfeed, the media website known for celebrity news and quiz, announced on Tuesday that it is developing its own social media platform in a move to deal with current internet negativity. Semafor first referenced Buzzfeed’s plan for this platform last week.

Details of the new platform are not yet public. However, the company explains that it will focus on interactive narrative and new forms of content.

When asked, Buzzfeed refused to clarify whether the “platform” would operate throughout the web, mobile tissue, inherent applications or all of the above.

However, the AI tools will play a place aimed at encouraging “self-expression” and “connection”, the company said. Although the platform will be human resolution, it is built on existing LLMS used for specific “creative” purposes.

Buzzfeed has already enriched Openai’s technology in his quiz and toys.

A start date has not yet been announced, but the official name for the platform is BFISLAND.

Users can now participate in the waiting list. Buzzfeed will try with selected users to focus on developing a finished product based on their comments.

Buzzfeed manifesto for a better internet

Through the ruthless misinformation and addiction of users to social media platforms, the new Buzzfeed platform intends to serve as a refuge from the current algorithm driven gloom.

“I am bored by taking tips on the platform companies on how to correct the internet, if we want this right, we must do it ourselves,” writes founder and CEO Jonah Peretti In a new manifestowhich was published on Tuesday as part of the announcement.

In Manifesto, Peretti criticizes great technology such as Tiktok and Meta for the neglect of their users’ well -being, prioritizing an “addictive”, algorithm driven by AI above human custody. He argues that these applications handle consumer behavior for their own profit and not for the benefit of users.

However, Peretti says that Buzzfeed’s new social media platform will use AI “to give users instead of stealing their service”. (It’s not clear what that means.)

“We do the doomscrolling for you so you can follow the biggest trends, find the hidden gemstones and be in the loop without wasting your time and risking your mental health. We will also face anger and fear with A sense of humor, laughing at the buffoonry and the ridiculous of the most powerful people, “writes Peretti. “We will face the increase in gas and misinformation by talking to our different audience in ways that other institutions, media and platforms will not”

Since its establishment, Buzzfeed has created an audience providing content, such as celebrity stories, fun quiz and viral video echoing with many users.

The company’s efforts to make use of this content to maintain other efforts, such as Buzzfeed News, have not exceeded. The latter Finish in 2023 At a time when the media team had lost most of its value.

Buzzfeed is not the first to try to deal with the darkest aspects of social media. Many applications – Communia, Daylyy, Weare8And many more – continue to emerge, each of which claims a commitment to restore a positive atmosphere in the digital Zeitgeist.

The reality is that social media feeds negativity. It would require a collective effort on all social media platforms to achieve such a transformation if one had to have.

This story has been informed to confirm the official name of the new Buzzfeed platform.
