A global law enforcement operation has led to the arrest of four Russian nationals, which authorities accuse more than 1,000 ransomware attacks worldwide.

The business, named “Phobos Aetor”, saw four suspect hackers arrested in Phuket, Thailand, according to Bavarian police. The four people have been connected to the Ransomware 8base team, which authorities say is the largest subsidiary of the Phobos Ransomware-A-A-Service.

Phobos has long been associated with the 8base blackmail gang, which has also seen the area of ​​the dark tissue seized as part of the business.

The Ministry of Justice on Tuesday Excited Charges Against two of the suspects, Roman Berezhnoy, 33, and Egor Nikolaevich Glebov, 39, accused of operating the 8base ransomware affiliate organization, who “victims of public and private entities through the development of Phobos Ransomware”.

According to Europol, 8base not only used Phobos Ransomware in its attacks, but also took advantage of the Phobos infrastructure to develop its own ransomware variant.

Authorities say they have understood more than 40 data, including mobile phones, laptops and digital wallets, and occupied more than 100 servers associated with the criminal network, according to the Ministry of Justice. Evropolia notes that the authorities were able to warn more than 400 companies “ongoing or forthcoming ransomware attacks”.

Last year, the US government said it had secured the issuance of a Russian hacker, who allegedly served as a key manager of the Ransomware Phobos productive function. Another female Phobos was arrested in Italy in 2023 in a French arrest warrant.
