PocketThe podcast app acquired by Automattic in 2021 now makes the web player free. The company says the move offers an alternative to the closed ecosystems of the big platforms, where the content driven by the algorithm is prioritized and podcasts are held behind paywalls.

The podcasts were built on open technology – the open, decentralized RSS standard, designed to make online sound as well as other content, such as blog news and posts – available to anyone online. From Tuesday, CASTS pockets will honor the open nature of podcasts, making the web player for free for use.

This means that anyone can visit the Pocket CASTS website and transmit any episode they want without having to pay a subscription fee or even create an account.

However, if users want to customize their experience, they can create a free account to unlock features such as synchronization on web, mobile and desktop devices. Managing their tail. and saving subscriptions and other preferences.

Meanwhile, the company’s subscription and paid assistance will offer features that give users an additional audit of listening, including access to tools and features such as folders, smart shuffle, bookmarks, portable and cloud support, additional themes and icons and more.

The company also notes that the AI -powered discovery is not part of its offer.

Instead of providing users with podcast proposals with algorithms driven by algorithmic, Pocket Casters wants users to decide for themselves what they want to hear. This message could attract people who believe that Spotify has taken a very pressing thing with its own recommendations, making it difficult for users to keep up with the shows they really wanted to follow.

Support for free streaming on the internet could also help the company cause Apple Podcast, which began the flow of tissue in August 2024.

The free flow comes in Pocket CASTS ‘MAC and Windows Apps as well as part of this update.
