Tesla was licensed on Tuesday from the California Public Business Committee (CPUC) for the operation of a state transfer service, the beginning of a long regulatory road that could eventually lead to the company to take OK to operate a robot service there.
The license, which has applied for Tesla in November 2024, does not cover an autonomous test or development of vehicles. And they are technically different from the licenses that companies involved in driving Lyft and Uber.
Tesla was given a TRansportation Map Licenseor tcp. A TCP means that the company-in this case, Tesla-burns the vehicles and uses employees as drivers, according to the CPUC, which regulates the services that lead to humans and without driver ride services in the state. A TCP is for companies that want to offer predetermined transport services such as Roundtrip Sightseeing, according to the committee.
Uber and Lyft Hold Transportation Network Company Company (TNC) allow. TNCs use an online application online, such as a smartphone app to connect drivers using their personal vehicles with the passengers they pay.
Tesla plans to first use the TCP license to transport employees on a predetermined basis and vehicles belonging to the automotive industry, according to its application. Tesla agreed to alert the CPUC when it moves on to the transfer of the public.
It is important that Tesla’s application does not seek to participate in the Commission’s autonomous vehicle passenger programs either by driving or without driving. This does not mean that Tesla will not apply for these licenses. Tesla has no power from DMV to offer any driver -free walks for testing or development purposes, in accordance with state regulators.
