Windsurf, the manufacturer of a popular AI coding assistant, is in talks that will be obtained by Openai for about $ 3 billion, Bloomberg said.
If the deal happens, it would put OpenAI in direct competition with a number of other AI encoding providers, including Anysphere, the runner manufacturer, who reported from the OpenAi starting fund.
The acquisition could jeopardize the reliability of the OpenAi Starting Fund, as it is one of the largest runner investors, said a person familiar with the cursor cover. It is not clear if Openai approached the cursor for an acquisition.
In addition to the sources reported by Bloomberg, there are a few more evidence that something is happening between the two companies. Two days ago, Windsurf users received an email that said that due to a announcement later this week, they have the option of locking access to the coding processor at $ 10 per month.
And Openai’s Product Head of Product Kevin Weil also released a Video yesterday Exception of Windsurf’s capabilities.
Windsurf, the company, which was previously known as Codeium, is in talks to raise new $ 2.85 billion -backed funds led by Kleiner Perkins, TechCrunch said in February. The company has reached about $ 40 million in annual repetitive revenue (ARR), according to our report. This revenue execution rate is much lower than the runner, which is said to make $ 200 million on a ARR base. The runner is in talks to raise funds in about $ 10 billion, Bloomberg said last month.
Since its founding in 2021 by Varun Mohan and childhood friend and colleague MIT Grad, Douglas Chen, Windsuf has previously raised $ 243 million from investors, including Greenoaks Capital and General Catalyst, according to Pitchbook.
