Aidan Gomez, co -founder and chief executive of Generic Ai Startup Cohere, joined the Board of Directors of EV Maker Rivian, According to regulatory deposit. The appointment is the last sign that Rivian sees the promises to apply AI to its own venture while being positioned as a software leader – and even the provider – within the car industry.
Rivian increased the size of the Board of Directors and the elected Gomez, whose term will expire in 2026, according to the deposit.
Gomez had a long career as a data scientist and AI expert. Cohere started in 2019 with co -founders Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang with an emphasis on the training of AI Foundation Model for Businesses. AI’s genetic start sells its services to companies such as Oracle and Notion.
Before the start of Cohere, Gomez was a researcher at Google Brain, the Google Deep Learning Department led by Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton. Gomez is also known for “attention is all you need”, a 2017 technical document that co-author who laid the foundation for many of the strongest AI genetic models today.
Gomez’s skills set could be particularly useful for Rivian, as the EV manufacturer navigates a new $ 5.8 billion consortium with Volkswagen Group for software development. According to the consortium, Rivian will share the know -how of electrical architecture with the Volkswagen Group – including its many signals – and is expected to grant license to existing copyright rights to the consortium.
It is likely that the joint company will sell its technology to other companies in the future.
Rivian has also been working on AI assistant for his UN since 2023, Rivian’s head software Wassym Bensaid, he told TechCrunch during an interview in March. The AI project, which is specifically on the orchestration layer or the frame for an AI assistant, sits outside the consortium with VW, which was reported at the time.
Gomez’s expertise in AI and as a data scientist is clearly attractive to Rivian Rj Scaringe’s founder and chief executive, who
It was noted in a statement that his “thinking and expertise will support Rivian as we incorporate new cutting -edge technologies into our products, services and manufacturing.”
