After a while, Danes You’re tired of listening to the same story again and again.
“Something bad would happen to someone at work and the story has always ended in the same way,” he told Techcrunch. “They just left, because doing anything else was incredibly complex and expensive.”
One does not have to look too much to observe that for many people, the search for legal appeal feels so frightening and complicated that many are simply not trying. Even for someone with a technological job, the prospect of going against his company is frightening.
This bothered Shell so much that in 2022, it started Valla, which seeks to make legal support more accessible to employees.
The company focuses on labor law, and since its launch, he says, more than 12,000 workers have successfully made complaints against employers and are negotiating settlements.
“Valla’s basic dissertation was:” If we can build tools that allow one to file their tax return from their mobile phone, we can certainly build something that can help them manage their own legal issue, “Shell said.
The Valla platform allows users to collect their own evidence, create documents and then speak to legal experts who “train” them through the legal process for each stage of their case. For example, Shell said, a user can watch an ongoing issue at work, plan a court claim, and then buy a coaching package to prepare for preliminary listening.
Like almost any other start these days, Valla also uses AI to streamline the transfer of knowledge. “The Genai engine on our platform operates as a legal secretary in the background,” Shell said. “He does everything from informing the coach to the case, taking notes and actions during any calls and receiving all managers and reminders as the case progresses.”
Investors seem to like what they are seeing in Valla: today, the company said it had raised a 2 million pound seed (about $ 2.7 million) led by Ada Ventures. Active partners and portfolios, as well as the Techstart and Resolution Foundation investors, were also invested.
Shell said Valla began using AI genetics in early 2023 and was combined with the early attraction of her product, which helped investors see the capabilities of her product.
The company will use fresh capital to enhance marketing, build relationships with workers’ unions and insurers, and create more AI features on the platform. After labor law, Shell said the company hopes to expand to minor claims and leasing.
“Then we will expand other geographical areas,” he said. “We are already considering opportunities in the US and Europe.”
