Google is getting ready to bring YouTube Create to iOS devices almost two years after the release of the video editing app exclusively to Android. The work lists examined by TechCrunch reveal that the company is taking active engineers in India for the iOS development program.

THE jobs Google’s appearance hires software engineers in Bengaluru specifically for the manufacture of iOS version. The initial Android application made its debut in the US and seven other markets in September 2023, then expanded to 13 more markets until February 2024.

YouTube Create provides free video editing tools for mobile designed content creators, offering features such as stickers, gifs and results for both youtube shorts and for larger videos. Google has developed the application after consulting 3,000 creators to ensure that it meets their needs.

The app is Google’s attempt to compete with the popular Capcut processor of Bytedance. But the exclusive data of the sensor tower shared with TechCrunch shows that YouTube Create is far behind capcut and another established competitor, Insthot.

The competition is not even close. In the second quarter of this year, Capcut and Insshot have received 66 million and 21 million times, respectively, on Android devices. On the contrary, YouTube Create has seen less than 500,000 downloads this quarter and only 4 million downloads from its release.

The user involvement gap is even more intense. Capcut can boast more than 442 million monthly active users in the Android application on Q2, while Indhot claims 92 million. YouTube creates delays far behind with fewer than one million monthly active users.

On iOS – the YouTube platform is now aiming – competition is just as wild. Capcut drives 194 million monthly active users to Q2, followed by indhot with 25 million. Meanwhile, Capcut and Instagram processing dominated iOS shooting this quarter, with 28 million and 7 million downloads, respectively.

Despite the delay in numbers, YouTube creates some momentum, with an increase of 28% on a monthly active users in Q2, surpassing the 9% increase for the camera and a 7% drop for Indhot, according to sensor tower data.

“While it has steady growth of users on an annual basis, YouTube Create has struggled to keep up with some of its largest, most established peers, such as Capcut, with the latter more than 10 times the number of monthly active users,” said Abe Yousef, a senior inSor.

YouTube Create may be the building of a more faithful users base, Yousef suggested. The rise of active user numbers along with decreasing downloads could indicate that people who were previously tested the application return to use it regularly.

“The capcut that comes out many years ago, coupled with the fact that it is seamlessly integrated with its sister, Tiktok, is probably playing in this size difference with YouTube Create,” Yousef said.

Still, creation of YouTube addresses some conservation issues. The 90-day maintenance rate-the percentage of users who occupied the application and still use it 90 days later-was about 1% in the third quarter, well below 7% of Capcut and 4% of indhot.

Commitment measurements also emphasize the gap. Users spend on average 38 minutes a month on YouTube Create, compared to 62 minutes for Capcut users. Capcut users also open the application more often, with an average of 23 sessions monthly against 11 for YouTube Create.

Geographically, the YouTube Create user base varies. India represented 67% of total monthly active users in YouTube Create in the second quarter of last year, but this share was reduced to 51% in this quarter as the application wins the attraction elsewhere. Still, YouTube Creative seems to be gaining sticky in India, with daily to ethnic user proportions improved from 9% last year to 12% this year.

In addition to India, Indonesia has emerged as a second largest Youtube Create market, which represents 21% of its global monthly active users. Germany (5%), Brazil (4%) and the United Kingdom (3%) complete the top markets.

The app has a particularly strong increase in several other markets, with monthly active user increases by 119% in Spain, 91% in South Korea, 89% in France and 71% in Singapore.

“The release of the iOS of YouTube’s creation could help the platform to increase its market share, although intense competition in the field from other video editing platforms supported by social media and inherent video publishers will insist,” said the Yousef.
