Meta is definitely offering many millions of dollars payroll packages to AI researchers when they discover them in the new Superintelligence Laboratory. But no one really gets a $ 100 million “bonus” bonus, according to a researcher and comments from an internal meeting.

During a meeting of all hands across the company, leaks on Thursday on the rimSome of Meta’s top executives were asked about the bonuses that Openai CEO Sam Altman said Meta had offered the top researchers.

Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth implied that only a few people for much superior leadership roles may have been offered this kind of money, but they clarified that the “real terms of the offer” were not a “point bonus.” They are all these different things. ”In other words, not an instant meter piece. Technology usually offer the largest pieces of their pay to senior leaders in limited stock grants (RSU), depending on either on term or performance measurements.

A four -year package of total fees worth about $ 100 million for a much higher leader is not unthinkable for Meta. The most than Meta officersIncluding Bosworth, they have earned a total compensation of between $ 20 million and about $ 24 million a year for years.

Altman “suggested that we do this for every person,” Bosworth told the meeting. “Look, you, the market is hot. It’s not so hot.” (Meta did not respond immediately to our request for comments.)

On Thursday, researcher Lucas Beyer confirmed that he left Openai to join Meta along with the other two who drove the Openai Zurich office. He tweeted: “1) Yes, we’ll join Meta 2) No, we didn’t get 100m sign-on, that’s false news.” (Beyer kindly refused to further comment on his new role in TechCrunch.)

Beyer’s expertise is at Computer Vision AI. This is in line with what Meta is seeking: AI entertainment, instead of AI productivity, Bosworth reportedly told this meeting. Meta already has a share of the ground in this area with Quest VR headphones and Ray-Ban and Oakley AI glasses.

Still, some of the Meta people are trying to nab are really worthy of the big pay packages in this tight AI talent market. As TechCrunch was the first to mention, Meta has hired Openai’s Trapit Bansal, known for his innovative work for AI logic models. He had worked at Openai by 2022.

Of course, the co -founder and chief executive of Scale Alexandr Wang is taking a healthy piece of cash, probably over $ 100 million, under the META agreement to buy 49% ownership of his company. As we mentioned earlier, the $ 14 billion that Meta pays are distributed to shareholders as a cash dividend. Wang is almost certainly an important shareholder on a scale entitled these dividends.

Still, while Meta does not deliver $ 100 million Willy-Nilly, he still spends a big one to hire AI.

An investor told TechCrunch that he saw an AI researcher pick up – and reduce – a $ 18 million job offer from Meta. This person got a smaller but still healthy offer than a starting AI Buzzier: Mira Murati’s thinking workshop.
