Police say they arrested a suspect allegedly linked to multiple threats on the internet that led Tiktok to evacuate its headquarters near Los Angeles on Friday.
A press release The Culver City Police Department says Tiktok officials reported that they had received multiple threats, on various social media platforms, from 33 -year -old Hawthorne Joseph Mayuyo. After an additional message threatened the Tiktok Culver City headquarters, police say the company’s security was evacuated the office “by an abundance of attention”.
Police then investigated Mayuyo’s house, according to the press release. During the investigation, he allegedly published additional threatening statements, including a statement that he will not be taken alive. The detectives received search and arrest warrants and negotiated with Mayuyo for 90 minutes before he voluntarily left his home and was detained, according to the police station.
Insider Business Reports That one Tiktok employee described the threats as “really scary”, while another was worried that he seemed to be targeting the e -commerce section specifically.
Mayuyo’s account X has been suspended for breach of hatred of the platform’s hatred content. A middle account named after him published a post in July criticized by Tiktokshop USA as a “fraud”.
TechCrunch arrived at Tiktok for comments. In the press release, the Police Department praises the Tiktok Security Team “for their rapid action, cooperation and professionalism throughout this case”.
This arrest comes as Tiktok’s US companies are launched by the Chinese owner byTedance as a new consortium with a new board. President Donald Trump, who has been talking and publishing the deal for many months, recently signed an executive order approved by the sale.
