Apple Overhauls Its App Developer Platform With 100 New Metrics,

There’s big news today for app developers. No, it does not reduce App Store supplies. Instead, Apple on Wednesday was announced a major update to the App Store Connect service, where developers publish, manage and track the performance of their apps on the company’s platforms.

The changes offer more than 100 new metrics to track in areas like monetization and subscription data, as well as others designed to help developers better understand the performance of their apps’ in-app purchases and how well their offers are performing.

There are already a number of third-party services that offer a look at app performance, including broader app intelligence platforms like Sensor Tower and Appfigures, as well as those dedicated to subscription app developers like RevenueCat. But the benefit of the new App Store Connect metrics is that they’re the only ones based on Apple’s own data — not estimates.

Among the additional features are new subscription reports that can also be exported via an API, allowing developers to analyze the performance of their apps when offline or import Apple’s data into their own systems.

Developers will also be able to learn more about their users by analyzing their behavior around things like download date, source, offer start date and more. With this, developers will be able to see how a specific group of users interacted with the app over a period of time, such as how one regional extension compared to another.

There are also new peer group benchmarks that allow developers to see how they compare to their competition in download-to-paid conversions and revenue per download.

Apple notes that it uses aggregated cohort data to protect user privacy and exploits other differential privacy techniques to protect the performance of individual developers.

As developers view their selected metrics in App Store Connect, they can take advantage of new filters to further explore their data. Apple says developers can apply up to seven filters at once.

In addition, the company published a new App Store Analytics Guide in the App Store Connect Help section to help developers develop data-driven strategies and better understand App Store tools and features.

While App Store Connect was undeniably due for an overhaul, the timing of this rollout is worth noting. As AI quickly becomes capable of doing more — particularly among AI agents that can take actions on behalf of users — there’s some talk that the traditional app store model will become a thing of the past. The CEO of smartphone maker Nothing recently opined that smartphone apps will eventually disappear, for example, as the web fills with AI agents.

Apple, however, is trying to blaze a trail where AI elevates its lucrative App Store ecosystem, rather than destroying it. Per Bloombergthe company plans to announce an AI-powered Siri at its upcoming developer conference in June that can complete tasks within apps.
