Meta’s AI app saw a major jump in installs after Wednesday’s release of the company’s newest AI model, Muse Spark — the first model to launch under Alexandr Wang, the head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs who was hired by Scale AI last year to overhaul the social giant’s AI efforts.
According to new data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, consumer demand for the Meta AI app took the app from No. 57 just before the release of Muse Spark on Wednesday to No. 5 in the US App Store on Thursday – a move that points to a flood of new installs.
Another market intelligence company, Sensor towerestimated that Meta AI saw approximately 46,000 iOS app downloads in the US on April 8, 2026, up 87% day-to-day. On Android, Meta AI downloads in the US were up just 3% day-to-day on April 8.
After says her new AI modelwhich is available on both web and mobile, is a significant upgrade over previous Llama 4 models. It’s also the company’s latest attempt to catch up to rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic, an effort that has already cost Meta billions in recruiting AI talentin addition to its $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.
Muse Spark currently accepts multimodal input, including voice, text and images, and is designed to perform well on a range of tasks, such as helping people learn about their health and reasoning through complex questions in areas such as science and math. It can also help with visual coding, allowing users to create web pages and mini-games from prompts.
Additionally, Meta AI is able to launch multiple sub-agents to handle user queries the company said.
The model will roll out to other platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Meta’s AI glasses, in the coming weeks.
Alongside the release of the model, the Meta AI mobile app and website were upgraded with a new look and feel and now allow users to switch between modes depending on the task.
Despite recent growth, Meta AI implementation still lags behind AI chatbots from other leading model builders, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT (No. 1), Anthropic’s Claude (No. 2), and Google’s Gemini (No. 3).
Wang showed the new high in a posting on X earlier Thursday, and noted that the app “continues to be developed.”
Appfigures data shows that Meta AI’s app has been installed a total of 60.5 million times worldwide on both the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million of those downloads occurring this year alone.
In the last five months, Meta AI app downloads have increased by 138% compared to the first five months of the app’s availability.
India is now Meta AI’s top market in downloads, followed by the US, Brazil, Pakistan and Mexico, according to Appfigures.
In addition to app stores, Sensor Tower data showed that daily web visitors for Meta AI in the US grew the most
by 450% day-to-day and US daily web visitors reached an all-time high on April 8, 2026. The latter was an increase of over 570%, compared to the average recorded over the previous 30 days.
Updated with additional data from Sensor Tower.
