Elon Musk said X, formerly Twitter, will start showing titles in preview cards with URLs on the platform again after removing titles last month.
In a post on X, Musk said in an upcoming update, the company will overlay the title on top of a URL Card image. He didn’t mention a specific release timeline or give an example of what the card might look like.
In August, Tesla’s CEO said X planned to stop showing titles with URLs in previews for “improved aesthetics.” The company stopped showing titles in October after the announcement.
Because of this change, users had to click or tap on the URL card to actually know the title or read the headline. To get around this change, publishers started writing their own captions on images and posting the link separately or including the caption in the generated preview card image.
This change may make posts easier and not work in custom formats, but this is completely dependent on the layout of the new card.
X has had a tumultuous few weeks as major advertisers including Apple, Disney and Comcast cut spending following Musk’s endorsement of anti-Semitic remarks. On Tuesday, Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Media pulled the plug on its partnership with the social media company just weeks after signing on.
Earlier this week, Musk sued Media Matters over alleged defamation. This was in response to the news organization’s article claiming that brand ads are likeable IBM and Apple appeared next to hateful content.
