As part of the IOS 18.4 software update, currently located in Public Beta, Apple introduces the APP Store review summaries. The new feature will take advantage of Apple Intelligence, the company’s built -in AI technology, to provide a comprehensive summary based on the reviews left by others on the App Store.
Revision summaries will be created by large linguistic models (LLMS) and highlights basic information in a short paragraph, Apple’s website explains. Abstracts will also be updated weekly for applications and games that have plenty of reviews to create a summary – although Apple did not say what this limit is.
App Store users can click and keep the review to report any problems with the operation, while Apple developers can alert Apple to problems through the App Store Connect.
AI summaries will be first in the US in English and will later be released in all applications with a sufficient number of revisions in additional markets and languages during the year. It will also be available on iPados 18.4.
The feature, first detected by Macworld In the recent Beta version, it can encourage the ruthless application developers to flood their ratings and review sections with false reviews left by bots or other paid commentators who praise the application or the game or make positive observations on its characteristics or pricing.
While these things are unfortunately already a common practice in the application industry – or really, on any site that offers customer reviews of a product – the addition of AI summaries could aggravate the problem. Consumers can start relying too much on the revision summary instead of reading more closely, both good and bad.
The feature also tests AI’s AI ability to export carefully and analyze any negative comments or concerns on the revisions of the App Store and highlight them for customers in these AI summaries.
Apple is not the only technician giant to look at AI for analyzing revisions. Amazon introduced AI summaries for product revisions on its 2023 platform. Google’s Gemini AI can also be used for products review summaries, explains a programmer seminar. The company also added AI review summaries to Google Maps last year.
While AI summaries are now available to Beta testers with the latest version (iOS 18.4, Beta 2 and iPados 18.4, Beta 2), the feature will reach the general public in April, when the new software is released to everyone.
Other expected features include an extensive set of Apple Intelligence languages supported, access to Apple Intelligence for EU users, access to visual intelligence on the iPhone 15 Pro, new Siri Control Center options, the ability to cease applications and a feature to prioritize significant notifications of others.
