Owners of Lucid Air Sedan will be able to charge their luxurious EVs to thousands of Tesla turbocharger stations in North America since July 31, almost two years since the automakers reached an agreement. But there is a remarkable warning: clear aircraft will not be able to charge as fast as Tesla vehicles.
Lucid said on Tuesday that all clear Air Sedans, regardless of the year model, will have access to the Tesla Fast Chargers network with an approved adapter that costs $ 220.
However, the air will be able to charge only at 50 kW, a much lower percentage than the 250 kW top rate provided by these turbocharges. The issue comes from a mismatch between Lucid’s 924 Volt charging system and 400V tesla turbulence. Lucid, and any other EV with 800 Volt charging systems, they just can’t charge as fast as they could with the chargers designed for them, Consumer reports Notes.
Lucid Andrew Hussy spokesman explained that engineers were redefined the material in the integrated air charging system, called Wunderbox, to make the system operate and activate 50KW charging when using a turbocharger. He added that Lucid sees the 50kW charge for air as another option for road owners or living or working closer to turbochargers.
Unlike the Lucid Gravity SUV, which started earlier this year, the air is still made with the combined charging system (CCS). The CCS was considered the Go-To EV charging standard in North America and was used by all automakers, with a remarkable exception. Tesla developed its own charging standard, which includes the built -in vehicle charging port as well as an EV charging link. In 2022, Tesla shared the design of the Contector Charging EV in an effort to encourage networks and automakers to adopt technology and help make the new model in North America.
Tesla calls the standard North America’s billing standard or Nacs. In May 2023, Ford became the first automaker to reach an agreement with Tesla to give EV owners access to the Supercharger network. Existing Ford EV owners would use an adapter to use the Tesla network. But Ford – and soon almost every other automaker, such as GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia and Toyota – also agreed that the future EVS would have the NACS charging port built.
Lucid was one of the latest companies to agree with Tesla. And like the others, Lucid announced that the next EV, SUV Gravity, will have a built -in NACS charging port.
